In traditional Wampanoag culture father's have an equal role in the raising of their children, so raising my son is not as big a stretch as it might be for some folks. It fits in well with my professional work: Zyggi has been in a backpack as I've moved through swamps with my camera, catching footage. My home office is also a playroom for my son with toys scattered among wires, musical and digital filmmaking equipment. Black Theatre has traditionally been a "single parent" profession, so childcare during productions is a cooperative effort. My son, Morgan James Peters, II, (or "Zyggi") is learning to play the Djembe as well as traditional Native American drums and songs. |
